My mom was only 35 when first diagnosed with melanoma. It was removed, and we thought that was the end of it. Ten years later it was back with a vengeance — Stage IV metastatic melanoma of the brain. We tried many treatments, but there was really nothing to be done but pray. And pray we did.
My mom was the most generous, caring, kind-hearted person I have ever met. She gave everything to raising her family, actively participating in her church’s praise team and children’s activities, as well as a dedicated wife and dedicated friend. She never once asked why me or let herself become depressed at the realization that time was running out. She stood true to her beliefs and took to making sure her family would be all right without her.
She was overwhelmed with tears at a fundraiser where the whole town showed up to support her fight. She was so thankful so many people showed up and cared about her. My mom was a truly amazing and inspiring woman.
The world lost a precious soul the day she was called home. I always wish I had more time with her. I never imagined I would be 21 when I would lose my best friend. I love you, Mom, and I know you are walking beside us every day.
