Charles Guidotti

September 19, 1935 — May 19, 2005

My husband, Charlie died at the age of 69 after a brave battle against metastatic melanoma cancer. Charlie had been lucky for almost 30 years, having had several melanomas discovered and removed in time. The one that got him was on the back of his head under his hair. It was not discovered in time.

Charlie was a Professor of Geology at the University of Maine and was well known in the geological community, having also taught at the University of Wisconsin and the University of California at Davis. Charlie lived his life with exuberance and a wonderful, often “outlandish,” sense of humor. As a birdwatcher, gardener and planter of trees, he was a passionate lover of nature.

I began Sunflowers for Health in the January before he died and Charlie helped me choose which sunflower scans to use for the cards. I am now committed to continuing Sunflowers for Health in his memory. Our three children and I join the many other families who know the misery of this dreadful disease and are trying to raise money for melanoma cancer research.
