We often receive inquiries about how our community can support AIM at Melanoma. One of the simplest methods is to dedicate your birthday to the cause by making a donation through Facebook.

Using Facebook’s fundraising tool, you can use your birthday to raise money for a non-profit like AIM at Melanoma. It’s simple to do, and incredibly valuable for AIM.

You choose a non-profit that you want to support (AIM!) and set a donation goal as well as your fundraiser’s end date. Your friends are notified of your cause on your actual birthday, and you can also invite your friends directly to the fundraiser, so they’ll feel personally compelled to donate. That’s it. Facebook takes care of the rest: When the funds come in, they’re sent directly to AIM.

One of our donors explained it this way: “After my diagnosis, people kept asking me, How can I help? And I didn’t really know what to say. Then I started my Facebook fundraiser, and I finally had an answer: Donate to my birthday to help us find the cure, so no one else has to go through what I’ve gone through.”

We are fortunate that many AIM community members have donated their birthdays through Facebook over the years, and we’re grateful to everyone who has done so and to Facebook for making it so easy.

Create your birthday fundraiser

When you start a nonprofit fundraiser on Facebook, Facebook covers all processing fees for donations.

Note: If you’ve blocked the Meta page, then you won’t see the Meta donation on your fundraiser. The donation will still be made.

1. On your computer, login to Facebook.
2. In the promotion in your Feed, type into the search bar to find AIM at Melanoma and select it.
3. Under “Let’s start with the basics,” enter:
   • The name of the nonprofit you’re raising money for
   • How much you want to raise
   • The currency you want to donations to be in
   • The date you want the fundraiser to end
4. Click Next.
5. Under “Tell your story,” enter:
   • A title for your fundraiser
   • A brief explanation for why you wanted to create this fundraiser
6. Click Next.
7. Under “Pick a cover photo,” choose one of the suggested photos.
8. Click Create.

A message will pop up that congratulates you on creating your fundraiser. From there, you can invite your friends to donate, share your fundraiser in your Feed, or donate to the fundraiser yourself.
